Quakers have been central to election violence prevention work in East Africa since 2008. We can learn a lot from their expertise and from other international peacebuilders. In this conversation, we will:
· define election violence (which is not limited to election day),
· hear about the warning signs that indicate possible election violence,
· learn best practice strategies to prevent election violence,
· help each other think through how we can apply these strategies in our own neighborhoods, towns, and cities.
This event will use secular language and is entirely nonpartisan. Please spread the word. You're encouraged to invite your friends, neighbors, workout buddies, old schoolmates, family members, book clubs, and anyone else who agrees, “We don’t want violence.”
Emily Provance is a Quaker traveling minister who has been leading election violence prevention workshops since spring of 2023. She is an associate of Good News Associates and a member of 15th Street Monthly Meeting, New York Yearly Meeting.
